All Your Sleep Training Questions Answered
What age is best to sleep train?
I have found the *easiest* age to sleep train is around 15-17 weeks. This age is typically what I recommend because it is usually before the 4mo sleep regression hits & we can get your baby learning independent sleep skills ASAP. Also, it is before they are learning to roll over and do other ' tricks' that may interrupt sleep.
Is your approach gentle?
Depending on how you want to start the sleep training journey, it can be gentle, or we can adjust to include a faster approach. It all depends on what YOU want and what is best for your family. All our plans are flexible to support what you are comfortable with.
Do you use Cry It Out?
I use it in some of my approaches, but only if you are comfortable with it. Typically when using some cry it out the process is a lot faster than using an extremely gently approach. It just depends on what you are comfortable with.
Why should I use one of your programs?
If you are in the trenches of your baby waking up every 2-4hrs and you are ready to start sleeping, I can help you achieve that! I have been there, twice to be exact and once I started getting 7-8hrs of uninterrupted sleep I was a better person and mother. I tailor the program you choose to you and your family needs, whether that be a gently approach, or a faster approaching using different techniques. I also take into consideration your personality + your baby's demeanor and how they react to specific situations and instances. This all plays a part of how I structure your customized plan.
What if my baby is exclusively breast fed?
Before I make a program I go over all your baby's needs and how they typically eat/sleep/interact throughout a typical day. I work with exclusively breast fed, exclusively bottle fed, and combo feeding parents and customize a plan that fits YOU.
How does a program actually work?
First, I have you fill out a questionnaire so I can learn more in depth about your baby and your family. Then I make a customized plan for you & your baby, send you a sleep log where you will log the times your baby wakes up, and goes to sleep every day. I will analyze and guide you through the different steps to take during the plan. I am available (depending on which plan you choose) via text/call for any real time questions or concerns you have, especially for bedtime.
How quickly will sleep training work?
Depending on your questionnaire answers and how comfortable with certain techniques I recommend, the process of your baby learning to sleep independently & connecting sleep cycles on their own typically takes 3-7 days. It is easiest, in my experience, to sleep train babies when they are 15-17 weeks old. I usually recommend 16 weeks as the "sweet spot" for sleep training. The older the baby is (typically over 7-8mo old, the more time it usually takes to sleep train because they are more aware of their surroundings. This is where I recommend the Custom Sleep Reset Plan or the 1:1 Sleep Support. The older the baby, the more time it typically takes to learn independent sleep skills
What about naps specifically?
If your bedtime sleep if awesome (yay for you!) but naps need some work, please reach out and I can send you info/pricing on my naps only program. Please let me know your baby's age & that you are looking for nap only support.
What are your contact hours during the program?
I am always available via email, however for the Sleep Reset Plan & 1:1 Sleep Support Plans I am available via text/call. Bedtime is typically the most crucial time and I will be there for you when you need it!
How does Text/Call support work?
I am available via text or call to answer ANY questions or concerns you have. Whether your baby is taking longer than normal to fall asleep, not falling asleep, catching a cold, teething, etc, I am there for you and your family.
What do I do if I need help out of support hours?
I will respond to you as soon as I can, typically if it is a text or email I will respond outside of support hours, I do have 2 children of my own so I like to plan out my time I am attending to clients, however I know how crucial and stressful sleep training can be so I can to be here for you as much as I possibly can. Support hours are 8am-9pm.
